Connected Families

Who it’s for:

parents with children ages 2-16 years-old who are experiencing relationship challenges within their family (a separation, significant conflict, placement to another home).

What it is:

an evidence-based program designed to strengthen families by increasing the knowledge, communication, and skills of parents and caregivers.

We will talk about:

  • ways to build emotional connection.

  • how to provide support for behaviour while building connections.

  • challenges of caring for challenging children.

  • the importance of self-care (and what this actually means and looks like for busy families).

  • how our experiences as children (how we were parented) shape the way we parent (and what to do if we want to change that).

When it is:

a 5-week program on Tuesdays from 6-8pm:

  • November 3 - the foundational challenges of parenting - trust, influence, shame, and unclear needs

  • November 10 - connective parenting - the PACEful technique

  • November 17 - connective parenting - the PACEful technique

  • November 24 - connection with correction - what to do when things get hard

  • December 1 - taking care of ourselves - a special discussion on (realistic) self-care for parents

How it’s happening:

  • offered online to residents of Ontario

  • free to attend thanks to the generous sponsorship of community partners

Common questions:

  • Do both parents/caregivers have to join? No.

  • What if I have children but they aren’t living with me right now? That doesn’t matter, we’d love to have you join
