Kids who do well in math, generally like math. So confidence in math is a pretty big factor in kids success.
Math Support
WHY it’s important: when basic skills and concepts are learned, it frees up attention and memory space to grasp harder concepts when they come along in the curriculum. If we miss learning some of these foundational components or if we aren’t given enough time to master them, we can feel left behind.
WHO it’s for: students in JK-grade 8
WHAT it is: individual support for any students struggling in math or looking for new strategies to learn missed skills.
Meet with Meghan for an assessment of basic skills (approx. 30-minutes)
Receive a tailored work plan to build the skills and strategies you need.
INVESTMENT: ($120/session + hst)
WHEN & WHERE it’s happening: individually scheduled, virtually or in-person at Sound Youth Counselling
Parry Sound: 5-19 James St. (behind White Squall)
Huntsville: 6-51 Main St. E (access off High St. through the parking lot)
About Meghan Irvine (B.Ed., B.A.)
Meghan received her Bachelor of Education degree from the University of Western Ontario with teaching specialties in Visual Arts and Math for the intermediate-senior levels (grades 7-12). Later, Meghan completed her additional qualifications and is now a certified teacher for grades 4-12. Meghan has taught math skills to children 3+ years-old.
Meghan was drawn to teaching Art and Math because they are subjects that emphasize learning a process over memorizing answers. She thinks Art and Math are also unique because kids will decide (very early on) if they are “good” at them - something she says typically reflects the ways they have been taught more than it does their ability. Meghan is a firm believer that the right learning strategies and approach to math are essential to success, and she is passionate about helping students, from preschool through to grade twelve, achieve that.
She is an experienced teacher and tutor, and collaborated on the Mathematics Survival Kit published by Nelson College.
Meghan is also a professional artist. Her works are carried in a number of galleries across Ontario.
